156 Countries Sing Together for the Starbucks Love Project
On December 7th, 2009 at 1:30pm GMT Starbucks invited musicians from all over the world to sing together at the same time to raise awareness for AIDS in Africa. In that one breathtaking moment, musicians from 156 countries played "All You Need is Love" together. Watch now, as musicians from all around the world come together and share a song.
Breath - Connect - Play
For a few moments today, relax and be present. If you are without spare time it can be during a mundane or repetitive task (dishes, shower, walking the dog). Set your attention on a part of the body that may be ailing! If thoughts occur, simply put them away and re-center your attention on your body. For most people, your body is not given attention unless it hurts. Treat your body like a new born baby with complete joy and appreciation for it's existence.
Can you feel it tingle? Does it feel like something is flowing in the area? Can you increase or decrease the sense with your attention? Does it feel different on the inhale vs the exhale? Does it feel different while taking long deep breaths vs short breaths?
The Burning Man
Thank you to all that have reached out and relayed your appreciation
for the positive messages, affirmations and “I Affirm” products on my
site and profile pages. The posts/quotes and affirmations are related
to either my personal experiences or clients/friends experiences and I
equally appreciate the opportunity to provide them.
Today, my content is a longer message. A quote or limited comment
could not contain the essence of an experience I had yesterday.
It has been my experience that life often gives us opportunities to rehearse
the parts we play in the world and yesterday was one of those days for me.
It was one I will never forget. Late yesterday morning, a man in
Downtown Portland, doused himself with gasoline and lit himself on fire
on the sidewalk minutes before I drove down the street. As I neared the
intersection, unknowing of the commotion up ahead, I soon discovered my
car was blocked where people were abandoning their vehicles and looking
onto the scene in horror. I can not tell you how shocking it was to see this
man so close engulfed in flames staring at me, as if in a trance, shifting his
weight side to side with his arms up mumbling something. I can't tell you how
shocking it was to watch people bail from their vehicles and not be able to do
anything. I can't tell you how shocking it was to watch his hair and clothing
burn, charring his thin physique. There are just no words to describe my own
pain observing this situation.
As I sat there in horror, the immediate thought that came to me was,
“This man needs prayer!” In my mind I called out, “God, send this man
so much love right now!”. I quickly and deliberately told this man, “You are
loved!”. I don't know why I said those words, but that's the intention that
came from me as this man stared into me and I could literally “feel” him.
The words he mumbled were inaudible to me from inside my car as I watched
his lips move slowly, burning.
My whole body started to shake, my hands trembling as I reached to
pick up my phone and call someone. Over and over in my mind I sent
this man love. It was all I could think to do. Eventually the
police/fire department were able to use a fire extinguisher to put out
the flames as he stood there. He was transported to the burn unit at a local
hospital and later died from his injuries. The news has updated their
report to indicate this man was a 26 year old mentally ill homeless man
versus the original report of him being an eco-terrorist (I have attached
one of the news links below).
http://www.katu.com/news/local/82841752.html
This experience has taken many avenues in my mind in the last 24
hours. Terrorism, intolerance, our current states of war, education,
spirituality, etc...and ultimately it has led me to understand that Peace is
a consciousness....a being-ness. It is something we are already a part of
and have a choice to be linked to. Sadly, the man yesterday was not.
It's a natural human response to have a variety of emotions to
describe our experiences, things we see in our lives and in the world.
Creating conscious awareness (of thoughts, feelings and actions) in
our lives is an imperative factor to generating deeper understanding
and acceptance of ourselves and others. Through a deeper awareness
of ourselves, we begin to change internally and our lives start
to reflect that change back to us, in turn, contributing to the change in the
global collective consciousness.
There are many ways to create conscious awareness. Use affirmations,
see a counselor, make a vision board, read self help or inspirational books,
start a peace group...and get involved. Situations like the one yesterday
and similar ones our soldiers see everyday in combat, are unnecessary and
each individual person on this planet can make a difference in our global
awareness by first becoming more self-aware.
For those that may be new to the idea of conscious awareness please check
out my website for a list of books/videos I have personally used. There are many
more books and great teachers I have yet to list that are equally informative and
transformational and I encourage you to check back as products are added weekly.
The more aware we become through daily effort the less tragedy will be in
the world. With this young man's actions many lives were affected and though
the image may fade in years to come it leaves an indelible imprint on our souls.
Perhaps the blessing in witnessing this tragedy is that it heightens the imperative
for people to wake up.
God bless all that were involved and may they find peace.
Much light and love to all,
Connie

Birgittu Jónsdóttur - Iceland
Grein eftir Birgittu Jónsdóttur sem birt var í The Scotish Left Review
http://www.scottishleftreview.org/li/images/stories/pdf/slri56.pdf
A small country with politicians mesmerised by dodgy financiers? Birgitta Jónsdóttir’s explanation of events in Iceland should be read closely by Scots
Iceland founded Althing, the national parliament, in 930, making it one of the oldest parliamentary institutions in the world. Icelanders were free until 1262 but then we were submitted under the Norwegian Monarchy that lasted until 1400, after that we were ruled by Denmark and full independence wasn’t our reality until 1944. In order to understand Icelandic politics one has to compare it to nations who have claimed freedom from colonists. In many ways Icelandic politics are still coloured by legislation and functions of the old Monarchy. Our constitution is basically a copy/paste of the Danish constitution and it had become redundant a long time ago. Iceland’s population consists of only 320,000 people. This of course means we are a clan-based society and that has resulted in nepotism of a high degree in politics. The nation finally realised last year that a separation of the three branches of government is a mere illusion. Iceland is a state of political party leaders. It is subject to the dictatorship of a handful of political leaders. The separation of the three branches of government is disregarded, Althing has no power whatsoever. It’s merely a processing and handling institution for the executive power (the cabinet) and the appointment of judges is subject to the whims of those in power.
The financial meltdown
As a result of the total financial meltdown, old demands of increased democratic reform has been rekindled with more fervour then ever before. The country had not seen a government without the Independence Party for 18 years straight. The Independence party gradually shifted into neoliberal policies and the Progressive Party gradually became so week that any chance of voice or reason was thwarted by what some consider as bribes, when it came to, for example the privatisation of the national banks a few years ago. As a result of the three banks collapsing, each earmarked to different political party, the Social Democrats, the Independence Party and the Progressive party, a wave of anger erupted and resulted in a revolution a few months later. No other country was hit as dramatically as Iceland when the global financial crises hit the world in 2008. The staggering debt has left the country hovering at the edge of debt moratorium. Going from being classified as the 5th richest country in the world to a debt moratorium is leaving little room for maintaining the same social structure as before. The nation is having to face either spending all its GDP in paying interest on foreign debt (in many cases originating from private debt rolled over to taxpayers) or claiming debt moratorium.
The public and the power of change
A left government has never ruled in Iceland, not until the pots and pans revolution in January 2009 drove the meltdown government from power. The Social Democrats were a part of that government but after the elections in April 2009 the Left Green Movement and a new political movement created shortly before the elections from a coalition of grassroots movements originated from the demand for social reform called the Civic Movement were considered the true winners of the election. The left parties could for the first time in Icelandic history form a majority government; and so they did. The name the government chose for itself was “Nordic welfare government”. That sounded like music to the ears of many Icelanders who had dreamed of living at times when left values were the core values of society. However it might have been a grave mistake for the SDA and LGM to take on running an economic program through the iron fist of the IMF, which indeed bases its program on everything but left values. It might have been a grave mistake to clean up the mess after the heroin economics practiced in Iceland for the last decade or so by the neoliberals of the Independence Party.
Is left really left?
The Social Democratic Alliance was created in the run-up to the parliamentary elections of 1999 as an alliance of the four left-wing parties that had existed in Iceland up till then: the Social Democratic Party, the People’s Alliance, the Women’s Alliance and the National Movement. The parties then formally merged in May 2000. The merger was a deliberate attempt to unify the entire centre left of Icelandic politics into one party capable of countering the right-wing Independence Party. The initial attempt failed however as a group of Althing representatives rejected the new party’s platform - which was inspired by that of Tony Blair’s New Labour Party - and broke away before the merger. They founded the Left-Green Movement, based on more traditional socialist values as well as environmental issues. Some MPs and Ministers from the Social Democratic Alliance have been heavily criticised for being more to the right then the neoliberals in the Independence Party. The Left Greens have been criticised for abandoning all its major pre-election promises, such as being opposed to the application for EU membership. However most of the Left Green MPs voted in favour of application last summer. The SDA said before elections that they were not willing to form a government with anyone unless they would support EU application. They also promised to help pave the way for more multinational heavy industry, mostly aluminium smelters for notorious corporations such as Rio Tinto. There has also been heavy criticism on this government for passing a budget that will erode many of the core values of the Icelandic welfare system, such as equality in health and education. The most banal poison pill this government decided to swallow was the Icesave bill, the way the left wing government handled this case of transferring private debt to the taxpayers of Iceland has been a total failure from day one. First of all they refused to accept assistance from foreign experts in handling contracts for nations in a similar situation as Iceland. They did nothing to bring attention to the fact that the IMF program was blocked by the UK and Dutch governments and other EU member states. The SD dream of being part of the EU family could be thwarted if they didn’t do as they were told at the dramatic ECOFIN meeting in November 2008. The £3.4 billion payout agreed upon to roll over to taxpayers is against the will of 70 per cent of the nation. Just the interests of Icesave will suck up income tax from 80.000 taxpayers in Iceland every year for at least seven years. It will place Iceland in the same position as developing nations who spend all their GDP paying interest of foreign debt typically created by dictators. The reason for this being such a hot potato in Iceland is that the government has still not made enough effort in freezing the assets of the people responsible for this unbearable debt. The people responsible are still living in luxury while we now have three per cent of the nation relaying on churches and independent welfare organisations to feed them. And it is only going to get a lot worse before it gets better. The Minister of Health Ogmundur Jonasson resigned recently because of the way his government handled the Icesave saga with, according to him, intolerable tendency to secrecy and emotional blackmail. The neoliberals are to blame for the mess in Iceland. All extremes in politics tend to have terrible results for the nations whom are naïve enough to elect that sort of power to govern their social structure. Perhaps is really time for those that claim to be left parties in Iceland to have a long hard look at what is really left of the left wing politics in their parties. The trend for confusion as to what is left wing policies within the Social Democratic Alliance is contributed largely by seeking inspiration from the British Labour Party during the era of Blair. It created a deep impact on left policies and politics in Iceland. The opinion of many people is that the Blair leftism has very little to do with left wing policies. Perhaps now is the time in Iceland to look beyond traditional political lines and seek some sort of consensus on what all parties need to work together towards in order to pull us out the mess we are in.
Iceland politics in major political crises
One of the nosiest cries for change during the times of the revolution in January 2009 were for social reform such as the possibility for the general public to call for national referendum. Another one was to be able to vote in a similar fashion as they vote in Ireland, a single transferable voting system. The nation also wants to have a general constitutional convention for the people not the politicians. All the parties promised pre-election to listen to these demands yet all of the bills proposed by the government are still collecting dust in committees. There is turmoil in all the political parties; power struggles have made their mark on all the parties. The Left Green Party in on the verge of loosing some its key MPs if they carry on sacrificing their ideals and policy in order to hold on to power. There are two towers battling for idealistic power within the party and today it doesn’t look like they will be able to keep it together for much longer. All this political turmoil is quite natural in a total meltdown and crises like the island is going through. There will be without doubt a few new government coalitions before the dust has settled. The financial meltdown was much more then just a financial shock for the island nation. It revealed in a shocking way deep rooted problems of nepotism and the weakness of parliament.
What next?
As I am writing this article historical events have been unfolding yet again on the island. The Icelandic President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson chose to listen to the 23 per cent of the nation who signed a petition calling on him to put the state guarantee for £3.4 billion to be paid to the British and Dutch governments to a national referendum. The bill was passed through the parliament with a narrow vote on December 30, 2009 after months of acrimonious debate, tainted with secrecy and dishonesty on the part of the government. Every day throughout the debate, new controversial information would emerge and documents would leak on a regular basis to local media or wikileaks. Finally the people of Iceland has a chance to have something to say about their fate. On January 5th 2010 the Icelandic president had the courage, backed up by his nation, to place the interest of the people before that of the banks.
On 1st of February the report from a Special Investigation Commission established by the Icelandic Parliament will be published. The Commission’s mandate has been to seek the truth relating to the events leading to, and the causes of, the downfall of the Icelandic banks, and related events. The head of the committee said to the press last August that no other committee in our history would have to bring the nation as bad news as the committee he chairs. Speculation is that many political leaders and politicians from all parties will have to face the blues except the Left Greens and the Movement. This could mean that there would have to be general elections again this year. Many fear that the Independence Party will regain its strength on the political arena - they are already gaining following in polls. One thing is for sure - these are interesting times in Iceland, politically and socially. The nation seems to be awakening to its responsibility of co-creating the social structure it wants to live in. The nation has been forced to rethink its values and morals, consumerism is no longer the core value. However, values of self sustainability, family and compassion are emerging as the cornerstones in our society.

Americas Debt
Focusing on SOLUTIONS is the only way to solve ALL OF OUR challenges.
I honestly 'BELIEVE' that for every problem there is a solution. IT SIMPLY DEPENDS ON WHETHER WE CHOSE TO FOCUS ON WHY IT WON’T WORK, OR HOW IT CAN.
#3 Reality is made when we agree. Lets get as many people as possible focusing on 1 and 2.
1) Most of our debt 'right now' comes from money we borrow from China to fund 'primarily' our foreign policy. Ultimately, this is the unconstitutional occupation of over 130 countries world wide... (as a side note, if we quit occupying other peoples countries we would dramatically lower the terrorist threats we face today, how would we feel if China had bases in the US?) .
Now, if we were to stop borrowing money EVERY DAY from China and end our unconstitutional occupation of 130 countries that will begin to address the problem of not being able to pay it back, because paying it back is directly connected to NOT SPENDING OR BORROWING MORE.
2) Our income tax (which is unconstitutional and was set up as a 'volunteer' WAR tax) pays for the interest on our national debt which again is primarily to find our foreign policy. If we stop borrowing, we can start to pay the principal down, exactly like a credit card.
3) Every person over age 18 owes about $180,000 of this debt presently.
4) The 'volunteer' WAR tax was originally catalyzed by AMERICAN pride and a desire to have a country that was in the black. We 'may want to consider' to begin to instill that kind of pride again in our country and our economics (this is another entirely beautiful subject that I do not have time to get into, but it is near to my heart) and encourage people to take ownership for their government and its present military and financial situations. (as a start point)
We can start doing this by allowing small businesses to start trading in real money... To encourage them to trade in real money like silver and gold. There are plenty that would like to (I know I would) and in fact MINTS across the nation started printing coins during the 2008 elections with Ron Paul and small business started to get excited about this very possibility until the FBI illegally shut them down and confiscated all the coins with Ron Paul on them. Keep in mind that Gold and Silver with Mickey Mouse is OK, though. hmmmmmm.
http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Creator_defends_illegal_Ron_Paul_Liberty_1121.html
This is another complex subject that can start to address the challenge of a fractionalized system because there is still more precious metal in the ground that we can use to pay off the interest. There are other strategies that cannot be easily explained in a text box, but again it is near to my heart AND at the heart of our current financial problems..
5) As we begin to pay some of the principal on our national debt and start integrating real money into our own economy we can then start looking at decreasing our income tax which then gives citizens REAL MONEY to spend (sequenced steps) in the market... As we do this, we then create a REAL STIMULUS in the economy.. It's real money, not printed counterfeit money that creates inflation (like Obama just allowed) and devalues our savings and hourly and salary wages.
This REAL MONEY can then be spent in the market.. It increases wealth and bolsters consumer confidence (FOR REAL) at the same time.
6) This is where (IMO) it starts to get fun.... We begin to encourage small businesses to start working on solar and wind farms (or something of the sort with all of the new spray on solar nano technology etc OR WHATEVER) to sell power to communities and begin to dismantle (piece by piece) the DEPT of Energy (thus decreasing SPENDING AGAIN) and we duplicate those same sequenced methodologies into other Federal Departments, like our entitlement systems that are creating a welfare state. Lets take food stamps as an example, we could encourage shift the idea of food stamps that are currently available for candy, pop and chips being only available for the excess of fruits, vegetables and grains that are discarded by the ton everyday in every community store across the nation. We could downsize the FDA and EPA by removing the Monsanto Corporate Executives from their positions and encourage farmers and environmentalists to work together towards a healthier food industry that dispersed the wealth and more community power as well as new businesses that can effect environmental change while decreasing BOGUS federal spending on those Departments. All it takes is a little ingenuity to figure out how we can do it.
Sure its a big project BUT YOU CHUNK IT DOWN and take sequenced 'SAFE STEPS' to transition from government control into more empowered economic and educated communities.
This stimulates the growth of American Industry, Ingenuity and (going back to #4) American pride and a desire to be in the black.
7) At this point we have REALLY began to lower government spending, increase the flow of real money, free market competition (on a community by community level), decrease taxes and increase personal wealth. This is where we offer folks the opportunity (now that they are paying a substantial amount less in income tax, understand sound economics and have a taste of personal, community and national pride) to pay a volunteer tax back to the treasury in order to lower (and eventually eliminate) our nation debt.
8) NOW..... We have to have leadership that models this first before we will be able to inspire others to do it. Another reason I love Ron Paul, because on principal ALONE he gives a portion of his Congressional salary to the treasury every year. I know I would do it, that is why I already do philanthropic projects like buy energy savings devices for dozens of churches, schools and community building both locally and internationally AND solar panels for habitat for Humanity Homes.. Its been my experience, that what ever standard I set, others (not all) will follow, AND if 'MORE OF' our leaders led by this example, we would see more of it. Once we have this leadership we can begin a conversation about holding the FED accountable for illegal monetary practices or at the very least make them transparent and if nothing else, appeal to their ‘human’ nature for completing the rest of the pay off. Anything is possible and we don’t need to do this, but it could help? Accountability leads to forgiveness.
9) American Politics and American Sovereignty was born from the idea of servant leadership (like Cincinnatus of ancient Rome (his name is at the bottom of the Washington Monument)) and it is with this type of morality and ideology born from the 16th-18th century age of enlightenment that must be AGAIN blended into the possibility of the American experiment.
This is a VERY ROUGH OUTLINE OF WHAT IS POSSIBLE IMO.
We live in a very numbed down society at the moment although it is waking up. We can encourage the awakening or surrender to the numbness either way, what ever we chose, we WILL GET.
What we focus on expands and we live in language.
Whether we speak a language about solving challenges, evolution, morality, enlightenment and building economic, political, social, health and educational foundations on rocks or SPEAK a language about why things will never work and continuing to treat symptoms instead of causes, ultimately it is our language of thought, word and deed that is the casue of the reality we create.
Again, these are not ALL my ideas alone and they are not perfect BUT focusing on SOLUTIONS is the only way to solve the problem and I BELIEVE that for every problem there is a solution. IT SIMPLY DEPENDS ON WHETHER WE CHOSE TO FOCUS ON WHY IT WONT WORK, OR HOW IT CAN.
PEACE.
PS Keep in mind that there is much more detailed information that I do not have the time to go into because my time MUST be spent creating vehicles to implement the aforementioned changes instead of talking about them.
PSS: Within 31 minutes we have already made significant headway.
PSSS: IT IS POSSIBLE.
Focusing on SOLUTIONS is the only way to solve ALL OF OUR challenges.
#3 Reality is made when we agree. Lets get as many people as possible focusing on 1 and 2.
